Therapy Guildford
Clinical Psychologist
I am a clinical psychologist, based in Guildford, offering psychological therapy to adults and teenagers in person and online. I have 17 years experience as a therapist.
I believe the therapeutic relationship with you as my client is vital to the healing process. We all struggle at times, and I aim to be humane and compassionate in the hope that my clients experience me as someone they can relate to and confide in. I believe that we all have a self, a compassionate self that can heal our hurts and lead us towards health. Through our therapeutic relationship, we can bring that self to the fore and work through whatever difficulties bring you to therapy. I place emphasis on valuing you as a whole person by showing curiosity and care about you in the context of your life and your relationships. I hope to help you grow and thrive towards what is important to you, to become more yourself.
Experience

Through my doctorate at UCL, my work in private practice since 2018 and in the NHS since 2006, I have a depth of experience in working with people who are struggling with a variety of psychological difficulties including depression, anxiety, anger, low self-worth, shame, relationship problems, trauma, self-harm, substance misuse, eating disorders, OCD, personality difficulties, gender dysphoria, psychosis and bipolar affective disorder. I am interested in what happened to you that led to the issues you experience; stressful experiences can lead any of us to face mental health difficulties. Behind your burdens, I believe you remain whole and healthy.
I am now full time in my private practice and I previously worked for the NHS for 18 years. My last role was principal clinical psychologist for the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service in West Surrey and North East Hants. This was a leadership role in which I provided psychological therapy to clients and also supervised other psychologists and therapists in helping them reflect on and develop their practices. Prior to that, I worked in NHS community mental health teams in Westminster and Hounslow, psychology outpatient services, a specialist eating disorder service, and community learning disability services.
I am experienced in working with young people, aged 13 and above. I aim to empower young people to speak and be themselves in therapy and I have been trusted with issues regarding identity, sexuality, gender identity, depression, anxiety, low self-worth, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, relationship stress and eating difficulties. I work closely with family around the young person, whilst also respecting the importance of confidentiality so the young person trusts the safety and space of their therapy. Completing a year-long foundation level training in systemic family therapy has enriched my thinking about the centrality of relationships in people’s lives. Whilst I work mainly one to one with the young person, I will also suggest family sessions if I think this could be helpful.
I am experienced in working with neurodiverse people in therapy. The higher rates of the issues I set out above for autistic people and people with ADHD I think are because, in large part, our culture is set up for neurotypical people. I aim to listen, learn, and help people understand and accept themselves more fully.
